Wedding photographer in Toronto offers some recommendations to get the perfect photos from a very important event in your life. Some photographers always work with an assistant, while others determine if they need one based on the size of your event. If they do not always work with an assistant, adding an assistant or second photographer to your contract will most likely incur an additional fee.
When reviewing a photographer’s album, look for the key moments you want captured: Did they get photos of both the bride and the groom when they locked eyes for the first time? Also look for crispness of images, thoughtful compositions (does a shot look good the way it was framed, or is there too much clutter in the frame?) and good lighting (beware of washed-out pictures where small details are blurred—unless that’s the style you’re after). It’s also very important that you detect sensitivity in capturing people’s emotions; make sure the photographer’s subjects look relaxed, not like deer caught in headlights. While you two are important, of course, you want to see smiling shots of your friends too.
Event photography tip: Rely on natural lighting as much as possible. Try to take advantage of the natural lighting in your venue, and avoid using flash (especially on-camera flash). “Where possible, capture natural lighting, and avoid artificial lighting and flashes,” Beaver says. “Unnatural light makes your image inherently feel like a photograph, and takes viewers out of the moment.” If you really need to use flash, consider investing in event photography equipment like an off-camera flash. If you do need flash and are taking shots of attendees, have them turn slightly to the side so they’re not facing the camera head-on. “This will reduce red-eye in your pictures, because that’s caused when light enters the subject’s eyes at a right angle,” says David Silverman, owner of David Silverman Photography.
Cut down on the editing grind: Editing an event is the worst. If you are not efficient in your workflow, you can spend twice or three times more time than it can take a seasoned editor to process photos from an event. To work efficiently, I will immediately go through an event and give the images zero, three, and five stars. Zero images are rejects, three stars are images that I probably won’t send the client but I’m unsure about, and five stars are the ones I send the client. I then go through the three stars and try to find any images that stand out and I go through the five-star images and try to knock some back down to three stars. Once you do this, you will quickly have a set of the images that you want to send the client (or for yourself) and this makes the rest of the editing so much easier.
